With Lahaina Harbor, Maui as her home break, Kulia Doherty was born to surf. By the age of 10
she was already competing and winning major competitions and today at age 15, continues
to rip through some of the world’s toughest waves. This year alone she has
placed 3rd in the NSSA National Championship Explorer Women, 2nd
in the NSSA National Championship Explorer Girls and 1st in the
recent Nike
Surfing America Prime presented by Got Milk?.
We wanted to hear more from the young talent and sat down with Kulia for a
quick Q & A.
D. What
other activities do you enjoy when you're not in the water?
K. Tennis, biking, skating and jogging on the beach. I hate
yoga.
D. What
does your ideal day look like?
K. Being dragged out of bed at 5 am to
find perfect, glassy, uncrowded waves. And after a good session, go to Daphne's
for lunch. Then maybe go skating around town with some of my friends and watch
some surf videos of Kelly Slater… I like to study his style.
D. How do
you balance school and training?
K. Balance is the key word. They are both important to me and I
definitely enjoy doing both and trying to be the best I can at what I'm doing.
I do spend a lot of time on my studies, and obviously a lot of time surfing
too.
D. Do you
have a secret talent?
K. I'm a human GPS system. When people
get lost driving around, I always figure it out and know which way to turn. I'm
very proud of my ability. Ha ha
D. How do
you EAT WELL, LIVE WELL?
K. Drink a lot of water (being in the sun so much dries out
your skin), stay stretched which helps me avoid injuries, get plenty of rest,
learn something new everyday, eat hearty meals at Daphne's, and just keep
having fun.

We sat down for a quick Q & A with Team Daphne’s Rider, Corey Colapinto. Here is a closer look into this talented rider’s world!
D: What is the best advice you have ever received?
C:
Try to make the best choices in life.
D: Have you ever had any injuries from surfing?
C: Just a few scrapes
and bruises- nothing serious. (Knock on wood!)
D: What is something you would like to try but never
have?
C: I’ve always wanted
to skydive, but apparently you have to be 18. I guess I’ll have to wait.
D: Do you have a girlfriend?
C: No, haha
D: How do you EAT WELL, LIVE WELL?
C: By eating Daphne’s
as much as possible. I also make a lot of smoothies, which are pretty healthy.
I’m constantly exercising too. Whether it’s surfing in the ocean or riding the
Wave House in San Diego, anything is better than staying home and doing nothing.

Don't let her age fool you- Meah Collins may be the youngest Daphne's Team rider but this Newport Beach native can rip just like her older teammates. The 11 year old already has a number of accolades under her belt and we're thinkin' she has plenty more in the works!
Here's a little up close and personal with Daphne's Asks, Meah Answers
D. What is your favorite surf memory?
M.
My favorite surf memory just happened recently when I got my first
barrel at River Jetties in Newport Beach and this guy paddling back out
saw my barrel and thought it was my dad and told him that he got a
really good tube!
D. If you could spend the day with someone famous, who would it be?
M. I’m not really star struck, so I don’t really care to spend the day with anyone famous.
D. What’s the most boring thing you can think of?
M. CHORES...especially doing the dishes!!!
D. Are you a tomboy or girly girl?
M. I’m a Daphne’s Girl!
D. How do you EAT WELL, LIVE WELL?
M.
I surf everyday and eat a lot of food throughout the day..starting off
with a BIG breakfast, snacks, BIG lunch, more snacks, BIG dinner at
Daphne’s, and some fruit :)
